Bitch, bitch, bitch...

... but it's a little one (although I see this all the damned time):

It's "homed in." It is not honed in. When you're drawing down in focus on something, or getting nearer to your goal, you are homing in, not honing in.

Yup. Some writers/authors seem to think they can have free reign over several phrases. Sigh.

Don't start with me! ;-) Actually, it might be fun to see how many errors one can put together in, like, a drabble.

Your kidding, right? I'm afraid I must demure. I'd probably be too rude; I can't be nearly discrete enough.

I'm glad you pointed this out. English not being my first language, many times I assumed whatever the author wrote must be correct and didn't even register that the usage might be off (or wrong). I've learned many things from your little rant over the years, so keep them coming~

Sure thing. :-) God knows I want to say do NOT assume any fanfic you read is grammatically correct. Sadly, you can't assume that anymore about a lot of professional publications either, particularly their web versions, which often seem to be slapped together without anything resembling an edit.

Errors like this always bother me. There are some fics I dearly love and reread often that are full of spelling/grammatical/idiomatic errors. When I see them in publications I just want to grab a pen, mark it up, and send it to the copy editor :P

One obviously unintentional typo that's been resurrected recently (since it's back in the news) was the New York Times's misspelling of "Large Hadron Collider", which I found amusing.

No way. They DIDN'T! And I MISSED it?

They DID! It was back in March, and it was an article that someone cut out and put on the fridge in the break room at work.

I did a quick Google search for it, and it looks like the online copy was corrected, but someone's scanned a print copy and posted it online here if you're curious. :) If you choose to look at the HOMEPAGE of that site, there's a pretty explicit doodle that is probably NOT safe for work, so be warned!

I dunno how familiar you are with particle physics (I'm not at all), but my favorite typo that I've seen was actually something like "the search for the Higgs bosom." :D

I only have the glancing interest of a layperson, but I have to admit I ALWAYS read that it as Higgs Bosom. Can't help it.

Can't wait to look at the doodle of a *ahem* Hadron colliding. (If they didn't run a correction, though, it might've just been someone's mean Photoshop skills...).

Nah, I saw it on a coworker's print copy that was real enough. Unfortunately, I haven't read a print newspaper since college (and that was because I wanted the crossword to do during boring classes to keep myself awake) - what I SHOULD have done was go out and buy a copy that morning.

I Googled it, and I ran across a bunch of people's blogs saying, "Hey, did you see that funny misprint on the front page of the NY Times this morning?" but I only saw one other person who put an image online.
